Community Canal Run
The Community Canal Run is a non-competitive sports event organized by Channel Events in partnership with the Taunton Running Club. The event follows the canal and River Tone towpaths, offering a completely off-road route between Bridgwater and Taunton. Participants can choose between two main distances:
- 14 miles: Starting from the YMCA in Bridgwater and finishing at COACH in French Weir Park.
- 7.5 miles: Starting from Maunsel Lock with options to run, jeff, or walk.
This is a community-focused event rather than a race; therefore, there is no official timing and no medals are awarded. The course is not equipped with aid stations. Instead, participants are encouraged to carry funds to use the three cafes located along the route: the Purple Spoon at the YMCA, Maunsel Lock Tea Rooms, and The Weir at COACH.
The event is free of charge, though registration is mandatory for insurance and participation tracking. The Canal and River Trust has authorized the use of the towpaths for this event, and participants have the option to make a donation to the Trust.
