Race the Ranger 2026 - Camp James E. Rudder
Race the Ranger is a 4.3 mile trail run held at Camp James E. Rudder on Eglin AFB in Florida. The course combines pavement, sand, gravel, and dirt. It begins at the Gator Lounge with about one mile of pavement, continues with roughly three miles of trails through deep Florida sand and loose dirt, and finishes with a final quarter mile uphill return to the Gator.
The event is open to all ages and walking is permitted for those who do not run. All participants receive a commemorative T-shirt and top finishers are awarded a Ranger medal. Free parking is available around Camp Rudder.
Following the run, an open house includes a live reptile show, an airborne Ranger parachutist demonstration, Rangers in Action close combat and combatives demonstrations, a car show, and food trucks. Eglin Air Force Base enforces heightened security measures: all persons and materials are subject to search and federal regulations apply. Prohibited items include firearms, knives with blades longer than three inches, explosives, ammunition, incendiaries, fireworks, illegal drugs, and drug paraphernalia.
Camp James E. Rudder is used as the final stage of the nine week Army Ranger course and hosts training elements such as airborne and helicopter assaults, small boat operations, river crossings, and swamp movements. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
