The course starts and finishes in front of Haigh Hall and follows woodland trails that descend toward the Plantation Gates before returning uphill to the finish. The route uses tarmac and park paths; some sections are narrow or uneven and in poor weather may become slippery. The start and finish areas are on a flat tarmac path. The course includes steep inclines and declines with a maximum gradient reported as 60 percent, and there are no alternative routes for those sections.
