The Rab Pinnacle Ridge Extreme is a technical sky race located in Patterdale within the UNESCO World Heritage English Lake District. The course covers 28 km with 2700 m of total ascent, weaving through the Helvellyn Massif. The route is specifically designed to include some of the area's most technical terrain, featuring scrambles and hands-on rock sections.
Participants must be at least 19 years old on the day of the event. This race uses a pre-selection vetting process, and entry is not guaranteed until the Race Director reviews the applicant's experience. Requirements for entry include:
- Completion of several mountain runs or races of at least 30 km in the past five years.
- Significant mountain experience, such as completions of the Bob Graham Round or Lakeland Classic Rock Round.
- Significant rock climbing experience, including high-grade solo scrambling (grade 2/3) or lead rock climbing.
The entry fee includes a fully marked course, GPS tracking by Open Tracking, a safety team of mountain-qualified professionals, and a compostable finishers' medal. After the race, a meal catering to vegan, gluten-free, and meat-based dietary requirements is provided. Optional extras include a cotton t-shirt, alpine-style goat bells, and post-race massage services.
The event takes place alongside other races in the region, including the Swirral Grind 850 and the Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
