Blencathra Marathon
The Blencathra Marathon is a circular fell marathon of 26.4 miles with approximately 5,875 ft of ascent. The route starts and finishes at Caldbeck Parish Hall, CA7 8EU, and visits five Wainwright summits: Bowscale Fell, Blencathra, Mungrisdale Common, Knott, and High Pike. A GPX route is provided and may be subject to minor changes before the event.
The event includes GPS tracking on Open Tracking and two checkpoints where water is available. Snacks are provided at the first checkpoint and additional snacks and hot drinks are provided at the finish. A 12 hour cut off applies and the event is open to entrants aged over 18; both fell runners and fell walkers who can complete the course within the cut off are accepted. Support runners are permitted but must be self sufficient. Spectator access at checkpoints is restricted for parking reasons; guidance on viewing locations is provided in the race pack.
Entry fees are listed as £60 standard and £58 affiliated and include a finishers medal, t-shirt, GPS tracking, water checkpoints, and post‑race refreshments. Trophies are awarded for first to third in male, female, and non binary categories. First aid cover is available on the day. Bookings can be transferred up to four weeks before the event, one deferral is permitted, and no refunds are offered. The organisers promote environmentally friendly practices including avoiding single use plastics and offer an option to plant a tree instead of taking a t shirt.
