Blencathra Marathon
The Blencathra Marathon is a fell marathon held on Sunday 6 September 2026 around Caldbeck, with a circular route that covers 26.4 miles and about 5,875 ft of ascent. The course includes five Wainwright summits: Bowscale Fell, Blencathra, Mungrisdale Common, Knott, and High Pike, and uses Caldbeck Parish Hall (CA7 8EU) as the event start and finish location. Parking is available in the village.
The event is aimed at experienced fell and trail runners and experienced fell walkers. A 12 hour cut-off time applies. The route is fully tracked using Open Tracking and there are two checkpoints on the course; water is provided at checkpoints, with snacks at the first checkpoint and at the finish. Finishers receive a medal and a t-shirt, and hot drinks are available at the end. Entries include GPS tracking and there are trophies for first, second and third in male, female, and non-binary categories. Entrants must be at least 18 years old.
Safety and support details include event insurance and first aid on the day, allowance for self-sufficient support runners, and a published kit list.
