Blencathra Marathon
The Blencathra Marathon takes place on Sunday 5 September 2027, with start and finish at Caldbeck Parish Hall (CA7 8EU). The route is a circular fell marathon that visits five Wainwright summits: Bowscale Fell, Blencathra, Mungrisdale Common, Knott, and High Pike.
The course distance is 26.4 miles with approximately 5875 ft of ascent. The event is fully tracked on Open Tracking and allows 12 hours to complete the route. Two checkpoints are provided on the course; water is available at both checkpoints, with snacks at the first checkpoint and snacks and hot drinks at the finish. First aid cover is provided on the day.
Entries are restricted to people aged 18 and over. Parking is available in the village. Support runners are permitted but must be self-sufficient. Spectators are not permitted at checkpoints due to parking restrictions. Awards are presented for first, second and third in male, female, and non-binary categories. Race permit ARC/25/0036 applies.
The entry fee includes a finisher medal, a t-shirt, checkpoint water, snacks, hot drinks at the finish, and GPS tracking. Transfers and a single deferral are allowed up to four weeks before the event; refunds are not offered. The organisers aim to minimise single-use plastics and offer an option to plant a tree instead of taking a finishers t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
