About the race
The Quayside 5k and 10k takes place on the Newcastle Quayside in partnership with Gateshead Harriers. This evening event features road-closed racing along the River Tyne, utilizing a flat terrain designed for fast times. The course follows a scenic out-and-back route that passes under several landmarks, including the High Level Bridge, Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, King Edward VII Bridge, and Redheugh Bridge. Participants also pass the Swing Bridge and enjoy views of the Tyne Bridge, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, The Glasshouse, and the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.
The event offers two main distances:
- 5 km (1 lap)
- 10 km (2 laps)
The 5 km race is part of the Top Flight Race Series and attracts competitive athletes as well as club runners. The course is accurately marked at every kilometre with distance flags. An event village is available on-site, offering various food and drink options for participants.
Registration includes chip-timed results, a unique themed medal, and free race photos. Participants receive post-race goodies at the finish line located by the Millennium Bridge. Event t-shirts are available as an optional purchase during the registration process. The race is organized with a focus on sustainability and is supported by a team of marshals throughout the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
