Puppy Creek Fire Department "Run for a Cure" 5K : October 24, 2026
This event is a community 5K run and walk described as a chance to crawl, walk, jog, or run with neighbors, family and friends. It takes place at Cape Fear Valley Hoke Hospital, 210 Medical Pavilion Drive, Raeford, NC 28376. The event is organized by the local fire department and labeled as a "Run for a Cure."
The race raises funds to provide free breast exams, wig assistance, and other breast cancer related opportunities for Hoke County residents who lack resources. The stated goals include raising awareness of breast cancer, generating interest in donations, and educating the public on ways to identify and manage the disease. Cape Fear Valley Health is a partner and has donated the start and stop locations and parking. The Hoke County Sheriff's Office and Hoke County EMS will assist with the event.
Preregistration is scheduled from April 1, 2026 through October 23, 2026 with an online fee of $35 and walk up registration listed at $40. Early registration by September 23, 2026 guarantees a t-shirt and medal; shirts and medals are not guaranteed for registrations after that date. Children aged 7 and under may participate for free but will not receive a shirt or medal. The event is self timed. Participants are asked not to bring pets, bikes, or scooters; baby strollers are welcome.
