Prisoner of War Trail Race
Prisoner of War Trail Race is a trail event held at Croft State Park in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with races that use a figure-eight loop course over roughly 7,000 acres of former Camp Croft. The terrain includes roots, rocks, and notable elevation changes typical of South Carolina backcountry.
Distances
- 50K runs two full figure-eight loops
- 25K runs one full figure-eight loop
- 8 Mile covers the northern section of the figure-eight
A central checkpoint and aid station sit at the Activity Center. Runners report there each loop. There is one centralized aid station at the start/finish and an additional aid station at a trail intersection about every eight miles. Aid station snacks include pickles, cookies, chips, Fig Newtons, pretzels, and candy. Hydration options listed are water, Coke, and ginger ale. The event is cup-less, so runners are asked to carry their own hydration vessel.
Event services include chip timing with live results, race photos, custom race bibs, a finisher medal, a custom race tattoo, and event-themed giveaways. The day includes a post-race barracks bash with food such as pancakes and soup. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers and to age group placings across multiple categories. The race supports local nonprofits through the Upstate Giving Series, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate.
Parking is limited to designated race parking; the upper day use lot is reserved for horse trailers and park guests. Dogs and headphones are allowed on course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
