Tactical Trail Racing at Croft State Park

The Prisoner of War Trail Race takes place at Croft State Park in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The event site spans 7,000 acres of rugged terrain that served as a World War II training ground for over 200,000 soldiers. Participants run on a figure-eight loop course that features technical elements, including roots, rocks, and elevation changes characteristic of the South Carolina backcountry.

Participants can choose from three distinct distances:

  • 50k: Two full figure-eight loops.
  • 25k: One full figure-eight loop.
  • 8 Miles: Completion of the northern section of the figure-eight loop.

The event operates out of a central base camp at the Activity Center, which serves as a checkpoint and aid station. This is a cup-less event, and all runners must carry their own hydration vessels. The centralized aid station provides water, soda, and various food items such as pickles, cookies, chips, and pretzels.

The race environment emphasizes a "pack in, pack out" policy to maintain the park grounds. Runners have the option to stage personal tents and drop bags at the designated base camp area. This event focuses on themes of endurance and remembrance, honoring the historical significance of the location and the military legacy associated with the grounds.
