Prisoner of War Trail Race (50k - 25k - 8mi)
The Prisoner of War Trail Race takes place on October 24, 2026 at Croft State Park in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The event offers three trail distances and directs race proceeds and donations to the Upstate Running Club Youth Team.
Distances include:
- 50K ultra
- 25K
- 8 Mile
The course follows a figure-eight loop. The 50K consists of two full figure-eight loops, the 25K is one full loop, and the 8 Mile covers the northern section of the figure-eight. A central checkpoint and aid station are located at the Activity Center; there is one aid station at the trail intersection approximately every eight miles. Aid station supplies include food items such as pickles, cookies, chips, fig newtons, pretzels and candy, and beverages including water, Coke, and ginger ale. This is a cup-less event so participants should bring a personal canteen or hydration vessel.
Start and finish are colocated near the horse show ring and Activity Center. Packet pickup is held on race day at the Activity Center and parking is available on site; park admission applies unless an annual state park pass is presented. Drop bags may be left on picnic tables near the Activity Center and personal tents may be staged at the designated base camp; participants are asked to follow pack-in, pack-out practices.
All finishers receive a finisher medal and a custom race bib. Overall trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers and age group awards are given for placements in age categories. The event has a 10 hour overall cutoff and a first-lap cutoff of four hours for the 50K. Dogs are allowed on course and headphones are permitted with awareness of surroundings. Volunteer shifts of three hours earn a free entry to any Upstate Race Series owned event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
