Race for the Grasshopper 5K
The Race for the Grasshopper 5K takes place at the Cowpens National Battlefield in Gaffney, South Carolina. The event commemorates a historical moment from the 1781 Battle of Cowpens, where two American officers raced to capture a British three-pounder cannon known as the Grasshopper.
The race consists of a single distance:
- 5K running race
The course follows a single loop on a paved road within the battlefield grounds. Participants can collect their bib numbers and shirts on the Friday before the event at Gotta Run Spartanburg or at the Cowpens Battlefield Office parking lot on the morning of the race.
Registration must be completed in advance as there is no sign-up available on the day of the event. The organizers do not offer refunds or deferrals, and the race may be rescheduled in the event of unsafe weather conditions in January.
Awards are presented to the top three overall finishers in the open, masters, and grandmasters categories. Recognition is also provided for various age groups, ranging from 14 and under to 75 and over, in five-year increments. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
