Prickly Pedal
Prickly Pedal is a multi-distance outdoor event on the Maricopa Trail in central Arizona. Distances offered include a point-to-point mountain bike course from Cave Creek to Lake Pleasant, a shorter mountain bike "sprint" from the Pioneer Living History Museum, and a separate trail run that starts and finishes at Lake Pleasant.

The 36 mile mountain bike course is point to point, beginning in front of the Flat Tire Bike Shop in Cave Creek and finishing at the Lake Pleasant Regional Park 10 Lane Boat Ramp in Peoria. The route includes varied desert terrain with steep rocky climbs and descents, flats, rocks, water, sand, mud, and roller-coaster sections. There are two aid stations on course near miles 15 and 30. Crews are allowed at the start and finish only, pacers are not permitted, and a drop bag area is available at the finish.
The 15 mile mountain bike course starts inside the Pioneer Living History Museum, follows the Maricopa Trail and enters a canyon before reaching the Lake Pleasant boundary. One on-course aid station is provided. Crews, pacer, and drop bag rules match the other distances.
The 10 mile trail run is an out and back from the 10 Lane Boat Ramp to Pipeline Cove via Frogs Tank, Beardsley, Wild Burro, and Pipeline Canyon trails. One aid station is on course and a drop bag area is provided at the start/finish.
Additional info: courses are well marked, live split tracking is available, medical staff are stationed at start/finish, parking at Lake Pleasant may require a spectator entry fee, shuttles to starts run from the finish and require a ticket, pets are not allowed on course, and proceeds support the Maricopa Trail and Park Foundation.
