Prairie Spirit – Outlaw 100 (Ottawa, KS)
The Prairie Spirit event offers multiple trail distances on a rails-to-trails course that starts and finishes in Ottawa, Kansas. Distances offered include:
- 100 Miler
- 100K
- 50 Miler
- 50K
- Marathon
- 1/2 Marathon
- 5 Miler
The course is an out-and-back on primarily crushed limestone with short sections of asphalt through towns. Turnaround points are south of Ottawa: Iola for the 100 mile, Welda for the 100K, Garnett for the 50 mile, and Richmond for the 50K. The courses are USATF certified and record eligible.
Logistics, aid and awards
Aid stations are placed at roughly 5 mile intervals; there is no distance greater than a little over 9 miles between manned aid stations. Manned stations provide water, electrolyte drink, snack foods, soup and sandwiches; unmanned stations provide water only. All manned aid stations have drop-bag access. The course is described as crew-accessible, and pacers are allowed for the second half of events.
Race headquarters and packet pick-up are at Celebration Hall, 1737 South Elm, Ottawa, KS. Packet pick-up and drop-bag drop-off occur on the Friday before the race, with additional late pick-up on race morning. Awards include customized belt buckles or medals for finishers within the time limits and top male and female overall awards.
