Kansas Rails-to-Trails Extravaganza, Ottawa KS

The Kansas Rails-to-Trails Extravaganza is a multi-distance trail running event held on the Prairie Spirit Trail in Ottawa, Kansas on October 24, 2026. Race headquarters and the start/finish area for the event is Celebration Hall in Ottawa.

Distances offered include:

  • Half Marathon

Course surface is primarily crushed limestone with asphalt through towns. The 100 Mile, 50 Mile and 50K start at Celebration Hall with a short northbound out-and-back before heading south to their turnarounds and returning to Ottawa. The 100K, Marathon and Half Marathon start on the trail in Ottawa and run south to their turnarounds before returning to the finish in Ottawa.

Manned and unmanned aid stations are located approximately every 5 miles, with no manned aid station spacing greater than about 9 miles. Manned stations offer water, electrolyte drink and snack foods including soup and sandwiches; unmanned stations provide water only. All manned aid stations have drop bag access. Pacers are allowed for roughly the last half of the longer events. All courses are USATF certified and record eligible.

Packet pick-up and drop-bag drop-off are held on the Friday evening before the race and on the morning of the race at Celebration Hall. Lodging options are available in Ottawa within about 10 to 15 minutes of the staging area, and primitive camping is allowed on the grass lot across from Celebration Hall. Finishers within designated time limits receive a date and distance specific custom buckle or medal; first overall male and female in each race receive an overall award.

Runners who start a distance but do not finish are listed as DNF for their registered distance. Runners may switch distances before the start but may not drop down to a shorter distance after starting. Course deviations or abusive behavior may result in penalty or disqualification.
