Prairie Fire Race Series
The Prairie Fire Race Series in Wichita, Kansas is a seasonal set of road races organized by the Wichita Sports Commission. The series includes spring and fall events, with the Prairie Fire Fall Races scheduled for October 11, 2026 and the Prairie Fire Spring Races scheduled for May 2, 2027. The fall program for 2026 lists a marathon, half marathon, 5K, and Mayor’s Friendly 5K.
The Prairie Fire Marathon began as the Wichita Marathon in 2010; the Prairie Fire Spring Half Marathon was added in 2013. Over roughly 15 years, more than 65,000 runners have participated in Prairie Fire events, with participants coming from all 50 states and more than 20 countries. The course is described as flat and as meeting Boston Marathon qualifying standards.
For the 2026 fall races the event notes that course information, a course map, and a runner’s guide are coming soon. The series also indicates opportunities for volunteers and vendors through separate registration processes. Race results, awards information, and runner resources are maintained as part of the event materials.
