About the race
Powerscourt Spring is a mountain running event located in County Wicklow, held on a Sunday in March. The event serves as the final race of the Winter League Leinster and functions as a trial race for the European Athletics Off-road running Championships. The course is fully marked and allows the use of GPS devices.
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- 14.50 km: Includes approximately 850 m of climb and is open to runners aged 18 and older.
- 7.00 km: Includes approximately 400 m of climb and is open to runners aged 14 and older.
The terrain consists of a variety of surfaces, including fireroads, hard-packed forest trails, and open mountain trails that range from soft to stony. The 14.50 km route follows a clockwise direction, ascending Djouce first before continuing to the Maulin summit. This course includes technical descents off both summits and down toward the Dargle river. The 7.00 km short course also includes a technical descent section off the Maulin summit.
A mandatory safety kit is required for all participants. This kit includes a waterproof jacket, a hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with emergency numbers, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. The final requirements for carried equipment are determined on the day based on weather conditions. Registration takes place at Crone Woods Car Park.
