Bray Head
Bray Head is a mountain running event on the Bray Head ridgeline in County Wicklow. The main route covers approximately 7.66 km with a total climb of 342 m. A junior short course of about 4.00 km follows the main line but returns after the gate down from Bray Cross.
The route starts at the bandstand on Bray promenade and includes a short run along the promenade, a ramp after a barrier, a lesser-used trail up to Bray Cross, passage over the headlands to the Trig Point on Bray Head Hill, and a loop back down past the old cable car and Raheen-a-Cluig ruins to finish in the field above the car park. The course includes varied terrain and is fully marked. GPS devices are allowed.
Event difficulty is rated 6 (2,2,2) indicating moderate terrain, 200 m to 500 m ascent, and a typical distance of 6 km to 10 km. The event is part of the Leinster League. Mandatory Level B kit is required and includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Competitors must be able to carry the kit; random checks may be carried out and lack of required items may result in denied entry or disqualification.
Entry is limited to 250 competitors. Entry fees are €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. Registration takes place at the Martello Hotel, near the start. Paid parking is available along the seafront and on adjoining roads; there are regular DART and bus services to Bray. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
