Bray Head Mountain Race

The Bray Head mountain race is a running event held in County Wicklow. The competition features a route that takes participants over two summits of Bray Head. The event follows a course updated in 2025, starting at the promenade barrier and ascending toward Bray Cross via a trail. From there, runners proceed across the headlands to the Trig Point on Bray Head Hill. The return journey passes the old cable car and the Raheen-a-Cluig ruins before finishing back at the original starting point.

Participants can choose between two distance options:

  • 7.30 km (366 m total climb)
  • 3.50 km (Junior and short course)

The terrain is varied and the route is fully marked. For safety, the event requires Level B mandatory kit, which includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with emergency numbers, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Registration takes place at the Martello Hotel on the Bray Seafront, located approximately 850 meters from the start line.

The location is accessible via public transport, including regular Dart and bus services to Bray. For those driving, paid parking is available along the seafront and nearby roads. As parts of the course utilize public paths, runners are expected to be aware of other pedestrians. Following the race, a prize-giving ceremony and social gathering are held at the Martello Bar. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
