Mountain Rescue Benefit Race
The Mountain Rescue Benefit Race is a hill run around Paddock Hill near Laragh in County Wicklow on Wednesday 12th August 2026. The event is organised by the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team in association with IMRA as a fundraising event for mountain rescue services.
The route is fully marked and GPS is allowed. The main loop climbs about 300 m and the route description notes it goes all the way up and then all the way down. The looped section is run clockwise and the course this year follows the same route used last year.
Distances:
- 8.00 km main course with about 300 m climb
- 5.00 km short/junior course
Parking is at Trooperstown forest carpark off the Roundwood–Laragh road. Registration takes place at the GOIMRT base at the start of the road to the carpark; the race start is approximately 800 m from registration via a short road and fireroad section. Competitors are asked not to park at the mountain rescue base or at barriers at the start.
Mandatory kit is Level B and includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, a charged mobile phone with the emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Competitors must carry the required items; random checks may be carried out and lack of kit can lead to denial of entry or disqualification.
Between the two organising teams they respond to about 120 callouts per year and cover an operational area from the Cooley Mountains down to South Wicklow. Prizes and spot prizes will be awarded, with prizegiving at the finish line. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
