Event Overview
The Mountain Rescue Benefit Race is an end-of-season hill run organized by the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team in association with the Irish Mountain Running Association (IMRA). The event raises funds for mountain rescue services, which are voluntary and rely on fundraising.
Course Details
The race takes place on a short loop around Paddock Hill near Laragh, County Wicklow. This is the same route used the previous year. The course is fully marked and GPS devices are permitted.
- Main course distance: 8 km with a 300 m climb.
- Short/Junior course distance: 5 km.
Logistics and Registration
Registration opens at a specified time in August and closes just before the event. There is an entry limit of 200 participants. Entry requires online registration only and a separate IMRA membership fee. The cost for the race itself is a fixed amount, with reduced rates for over 65s and under 18s. Registration will be held at the GOIMRT base.
Mandatory Kit
All runners must bring a specified Level B kit. This includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or equivalent. The exact items to be carried during the race will be confirmed on the day based on conditions. Random kit checks may be performed.
Getting There and Start
Participants must park at the Trooperstown forest car park, not at the mountain rescue base or race start. Carpooling from Roundwood or Laragh is requested. The race start is approximately 800 meters from the registration point. There is an early start option available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
