Pat's Pony Express
Pat's Pony Express is a trail running event at Rampart Reservoir near Woodland Park, Colorado, organized by Pikes Peak Road Runners, a volunteer-driven club founded in 1976. The event has been offered since 1977 and its current name has been in use since 2026.
The event includes the following distances:
- 16 Miles
- 8 Miles
Parking at the Rainbow Gulch trailhead is extremely limited. A shuttle service will operate from Merit Academy for race participants while the Rainbow Gulch trailhead will be reserved for volunteers and community members not involved with the races. A drop-off location and a volunteers-only parking area are designated at the trailhead.
Course planning aims to restore the full loop around the reservoir; final course details are pending. Aid and water station locations and quantities are not yet finalized. Restroom facilities will be provided at the start and finish area.
Recommended gear for the remote trails within Pike National Forest includes water flasks, carbohydrates, salt tablets, cooling equipment, sunscreen, toilet paper, a vest or waistband, trail shoes with good traction, optional trekking poles, and a hat or visor.
All finishers will receive a commemorative horseshoe medal with a placard. There will be a raffle of five one-year Pikes Peak Road Runners memberships valued at $31.40 each. There is no race day registration; registrations are handled through RunSignUp. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
