Nielson Challenge
The Nielson Challenge is a recurring short road race held at North Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs. The event runs the same 2 mile course each month on the first Saturday, providing a consistent course for month to month comparison of performance.
Runners compete against a personal handicap time that is computed from their previous results over the last two years. A runner’s first appearance establishes a base time that is then used to generate the handicap. The person who improves the most relative to their handicap time at each monthly race is declared the winner.
Registration for the listed event opens May 5, 2026 and closes June 5, 2026. There is no registration fee for this event. Participants who hold a forever bib are pre-registered for each monthly race and do not need to register again.
A Nielson shirt is awarded at each monthly race to the runner with the greatest improvement over their handicap. The consistent course and recurring schedule offer a way to track changes in fitness over time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
