45th Annual Polar Bear Winter Classic
The Polar Bear Winter Classic takes place in Indianapolis on February 27, 2027, with activities centered at Fowling Warehouse Indianapolis, 1125 E Brookside Ave. The event continues a long local tradition and includes in person and virtual participation options.
The event format includes the following distances:
- 5K
- 5 Mile
- The Bear 5K followed by the 5 Mile for a combined distance of about 8.1 miles
- Virtual options Virtual 5K, Virtual 5 Mile, Virtual Bear
The first 1000 registrants are guaranteed a finisher medal and a winter hat. Optional apparel such as a long sleeve shirt and a hoodie are available as add ons. The event offers cash prizes and age group awards for each distance; age group awards are distributed at the post race celebration inside Fowling Warehouse and are not mailed. Top three overall female and male finishers in each event receive cash awards after results are finalized.
Packet pickup is available at The Fowling Warehouse on the Friday before the race and on race morning at the same location. Dogs are allowed in the 5K but not the 5 Mile; dogs must be leashed and should start toward the back. Walkers are allowed, with specific pacing requirements for The Bear and the 5 Mile. The event is held rain or shine; delays or cancellations may occur for safety reasons and refunds are not offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
