45th Annual Polar Bear Winter Classic
The Polar Bear Winter Classic is a historic road race taking place in Indianapolis. Established as one of the oldest running events in the city, the 45th annual edition serves as the first major road race of the year in the region. The event is based at the Fowling Warehouse Indianapolis, which hosts both the race operations and the indoor post-race celebrations.
Participants can choose from several distinct race distances:
- 5K Run
- 5 Mile Run
- The Bear (a combination of the 5K and 5 Mile races)
- Virtual 5K
- Virtual 5 Mile
- Virtual Bear
The Bear format is designed for those in spring training, requiring runners to complete both the 5K and the 5 Mile courses consecutively for a total distance of 8.1 miles.
The event provides age group awards across all three distance categories and includes cash prizes for top finishers. Regarding event mementos, the first 1,000 registered participants receive a finisher medal and a winter hat. Additional apparel, such as long-sleeve shirts and hoodies, is available as an optional addition during the registration process. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
