Manchester - Freddie Purrcury Run
An event at Alexandra Park in Oldham, Greater Manchester, held on Saturday 05 September 2026 to mark what would have been Freddie Mercury's 80th birthday. The occasion references Mercury's well known affection for cats and notes that he kept ten feline companions; it also mentions the song "Delilah" and the solo album "Mr. Bad Guy" in relation to his cats.
The course runs predominantly on tarmac within Alexandra Park. Each lap is approximately 3.28 miles with about 246 ft of elevation per lap. Road shoes are suitable for the route. Facilities on site include public toilets and a café. Free public parking is available around the park and on nearby streets; there is a small car park off Kings Road.
Distances available are based on completing multiple laps within the event time limit:
- 1 lap - 3.28 miles
- 2 laps - just over 10K
- 4 laps - Half Marathon 13.1 miles
- 8 laps - Marathon 26.2 miles
- 9 or more laps - Ultra distance
The event is held under TRA and UKA rules. Participants must be 18 years or older and UKA distance restrictions apply to those aged 20 or under. The chosen charity is RSPCA Hollingworth Lake.
