INFERNO - Edale's Ring Of Hell
The event offers multiple trail distances in and around Edale in the Peak District. The courses run from the village up to Ringing Roger and use sheep tracks, muddy paths, rocky descents and sections that include a climb up a waterfall and several natural water sources.
Distances on offer:
- Ultra
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 10 miles
Course information published by the organiser also lists three recorded route distances of 41 miles, 28 miles and 15.5 miles, with corresponding elevation figures of approximately +/- 10,000 ft, 6,800 ft and 4,000 ft, and cut-off times of 16 hrs, 11 hrs and 7 hrs. Runners should expect long self-supported sections, with stretches of around 10–15 miles between checkpoints and a few streams and a waterfall on course.
The race is self-navigated; a GPX file and a marked map will be provided to download. The organiser can run free recce sessions for each course if there is an interested group. Checkpoints provide a variety of food and Mountain Fuel snacks, and all finishers receive a medal. The event notes a First Aid trained race director is present. The organiser requests reusable cups because plastic cups are not provided.
Certain items are mandatory on longer distances regardless of weather, including a bivi bag, waterproof jacket, basic first aid kit and at least 1000 ml of liquid; failure to carry mandatory kit can lead to disqualification. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
