Event overview

INFERNO - Edale’s Ring of Hell is a set of trail races held in Edale, Peak District (venue: Edale Village Hall, S33 7ZA) on 22 August 2026. The event uses natural trails including steep ascents, sheep tracks, muddy paths, rocky descents and a waterfall. The route is self-navigated; GPX and marked maps are provided for download. The start location is about a five-minute walk from the local train station. Cut-off times are published for each distance.

Race details and logistics

Distances and elevation:

  • Ultra: 41 miles, about 10,000 ft ascent
  • Marathon: ~27 miles, about 6,400 ft ascent
  • Half Marathon: 15.5 miles, about 4,000 ft ascent
  • 10 miles: 10 miles, about 2,700–2,800 ft ascent

Runners may be self-supported between checkpoints; some sections can be 10–15 miles between checkpoints. Ultra and marathon runners will carry trackers for safety. Checkpoints are stocked with a variety of food including Mountain Fuel products and vegan options; organisers are not supplying plastic cups, so participants should bring their own drinking vessel. A compulsory kit list applies; some items are mandatory on ultra and marathon courses regardless of weather, including a bivi bag, waterproof jacket, a basic first aid kit and at least 1,000 ml of liquid. The event includes finishers’ medals, experienced sweepers, first-aid-trained race leadership and donations to local Mountain Rescue and landowners.
