INFERNO - Edale's Ring of Hell
INFERNO is a set of trail races based in Edale in the Peak District. The courses go quickly up Ringing Roger and use sheep tracks, muddy paths, rocky descents and a climb up a waterfall. The event is self-navigated: GPX files and marked maps are provided to download. Organisers offer optional social recces for each course.
Distances and cut-offs
- Ultra - 41 miles, 10,000 ft ascent
- Marathon - 26.9 miles, 6,400 ft ascent
- Half - 15.5 miles, 4,000 ft ascent
- 10 miles - 10.5 miles, 2,700 ft ascent
Cut-off times are published for each distance (for example Ultra - 16 hours; Marathon - 11 hours; Half - 7.5 hours; 10 miles - 5 hours).
Logistics, safety and kit
All finishers receive a medal. Ultra and marathon runners carry trackers for safety and spectator tracking. Checkpoints are stocked with food, including vegan options and Mountain Fuel gels, and some fizzy drinks are available. The organisers make donations to local Mountain Rescue, the National Trust and Peak District National Park. Plastic cups are not provided at checkpoints; runners should bring a cup. Some mandatory kit items for longer distances include a bivi bag, waterproof jacket, basic first aid kit and 1000 ml of liquid. Failure to carry mandatory kit can lead to disqualification.
