INFERNO - Edale's Ring of Hell
INFERNO is a trail event in Edale in the Peak District offering four distances: ultra, marathon, half marathon and 10 miles.
- Ultra: 41 miles, +/- 10,000 ft, cut off 16 hours.
- Marathon: 28 miles, +/- 6,800 ft, cut off 11 hours.
- Half Marathon: 15.5 miles, +/- 4,000 ft, cut off 7.5 hours.
- 10 miles: 10.5 miles, +/- 2,800 ft, cut off 5 hours.
The route starts in Edale, about a five minute walk from the train station, and quickly rises to Ringing Roger via a steep ascent. Courses follow sheep tracks, muddy paths and rocky descents and include features such as a climb up a waterfall with clear water that is noted as an unofficial water source.
Participants should expect long self supported sections with stretches of roughly 10 to 15 miles between checkpoints. The event is self navigated; GPX files and a marked map are provided for download. Organisers can arrange free recce sessions for groups if there is interest.
Included for finishers are a medal and checkpoints with a variety of food plus Mountain Fuel snacks. A first aid trained race director is present. The event does not provide plastic cups at checkpoints for environmental reasons; participants are asked to carry their own cup. Some kit items must be carried on the ultra and marathon regardless of weather, including a bivi bag, waterproof jacket, a basic first aid kit and at least 1000 ml of liquid. Failure to carry mandatory kit can result in disqualification. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
