INFERNO – Edale’s Ring of Hell
INFERNO – Edale’s Ring of Hell is a series of exceptionally demanding trail races that start at Edale Village Hall in the Peak District. Courses take participants onto wild paths and local peaks, using sheep tracks, muddy sections, rocky descents and a climb up a waterfall noted as an unofficial water station.
Routes are self navigated; organisers provide GPX files and a marked map. Social recce runs are arranged during the year to familiarise participants with terrain and route. All entrants must carry compulsory kit; the kit list and further information are available on the event website.
Event distances and ascent:
- Ultra - 41 miles, 10,000 ft ascent
- Marathon - 26.9 miles, 6,400 ft ascent
- Half - 15.5 miles, 4,000 ft ascent
Checkpoints are stocked with Mountain Fuel gels and a variety of food including vegan options, and with soft drinks such as Fanta and cola. Ultra and marathon entrants are fitted with trackers for safety and tracking. Finishers receive a medal. The event makes donations to Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, the National Trust and Peak District National Park and uses experienced sweepers. Organisers do not provide plastic cups at checkpoints.
