Event Overview
The Perranporth Triathlon, also known as "The Shark," returns for its 33rd edition in collaboration with the Perranporth Surf Lifesaving Club. This multisport event originally debuted in 1987 and takes place at Perranporth Beach. The competition is part of the Cornish Tri Series, where participants can earn points toward age group series awards.
The event utilizes the beach and the surrounding area, with the town centre closed to traffic during the competition to accommodate athletes and spectators. The triathlon features both adult and junior events, with the youth races held in the afternoon. For all participants, the use of a wetsuit is mandatory, which can be either a shortie or a full body suit.
Distances
Participants can choose between two primary adult distances:
- Little Shark (Super Sprint): Includes a 400m swim, 19.0k bike, and 3.1k run.
- Olympic Shark: Includes a 1500m swim, 36.7k bike, and 7.5k run.
The bike course follows a loop format, with the Little Shark completing one loop and the Olympic Shark completing two loops. All finishers receive a medal upon completion. Age group categories for the series ranking include Open, Vet, Super Vet, Vintage, and Super Vintage.
Participation and Volunteering
The event offers various registration options and discounts related to volunteering. Individuals who bring a volunteer to assist with the event may receive a discount on their entry fee. Those who volunteer themselves can earn credit for free entry into another event within the Cornish Tri series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
