Perranporth Triathlon

Perranporth Triathlon, known as The Shark, takes place at Perranporth Beach, TR6 0EY on 6 September 2026. The event is staged in collaboration with Perranporth Surf Lifesaving Club and returns after a five year break for its 33rd edition; the event traces its history back to 1987.

The beach attracts large summer crowds, with up to 12,000 visitors reported in some seasons, and the town centre is closed for the race to accommodate competitors and spectators. Junior events are held in the afternoon alongside the adult races.

Distances:

  • Little Shark (Super Sprint): 400m swim | 19.0k bike | 3.1k run
  • Olympic Shark: 1500m swim | 36.7k bike | 7.5k run

Course details note that the Olympic bike course uses two loops while the Little Shark uses one loop. Wetsuits are mandatory; either a shortie or a full body suit is allowed. All finishers receive a medal.

The race forms part of the Cornish Tri Series, which uses a points system with a maximum of 100 points for age group winners. To qualify for overall series awards athletes must complete a minimum number of scoring events and volunteer themselves or bring a volunteer to at least one event. Age groups run from Open (17-39 yrs) through Super Vintage (70+). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
