Pendle Fell Races
The Pendle Fell Races are held from Barley Village Hall, near Burnley (GR 822402, BB12 9JU). The senior race is a Category AS course of 4.5 miles / 1500 ft with a minimum age of 16 on race day. Junior races are organised for U10s to U18s, with U20s running in the senior race. The event is held under UKA rules and is registered with the Fell Runners Association (FRA). Past course records are listed for men and women.
Entry, course and rules
Entries on the day are accepted with an entry fee of £5 for FRA members and £7 for non-FRA members, and registration takes place at the village hall. Parking is available in the village car park with overflow along one side of the road towards Roughlee; participants are asked to park considerately.
The route is partially marked and the senior and junior courses are the same as the previous year. Junior courses are out-and-back from a field near the village hall, running over track, field and fell ground up toward the trig; each age group turns back at a designated point. Junior races take place on private farmland during lambing season and dogs are not permitted near the start/finish areas or on parts of the route. Kit requirements apply: U12, U14 and U16/U18 runners must carry jacket, hat and gloves; U10 kit will be decided on the day. Race numbers must be worn on the chest and visible at all times. Prizes are Pete Bland Sports vouchers for top placings and age-category winners. Refreshments are available in the village hall. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
