Event Overview

The Pendle Fell Races are organized by Clayton-le-Moors Harriers. The senior race is scheduled for a Saturday in late March. It is classified as a category AS fell race, covering a distance of approximately 4.5 miles (7.2 km) with 1500 ft (457 m) of ascent. The minimum age for the senior race is 16 years.

Entry and Registration

Entries are taken on the day. Fees are £5 for Fell Runners Association (FRA) members and £7 for non-members. Registration opens at 12:00 noon at Barley Village Hall near Burnley. Car parking is available in the village car park, with overflow parking along the road towards Roughlee. Participants are advised to allow a 10-minute walk to registration unless they arrive early.

Rules and Requirements

The event is held under UK Athletics rules and registered with the FRA. Runners must bring full FRA Mandatory Minimum Kit; specific recommendations will be given on the day based on weather. Race numbers must be worn visibly on the chest. Runners who decide not to start or who retire must inform registration.

Course and Prizes

The senior race route is partially marked. A map of the course is provided by the organizer. Prizes are Pete Bland Sports vouchers, awarded to the first, second, and third male and female finishers, and to the first male and female in each age category. There are no team prizes.

Facilities

Tea, coffee, and cake are available for purchase in the village hall. Pete Bland Sports will have a van in Barley Car Park.

Junior Races

Separate junior races for age categories from under-10 to under-18 are held on the same day, starting from 12:00 noon. These races take place on private farmland during lambing time, and participants are asked not to bring dogs. The courses are out-and-back on track, field, and fell terrain. For the U12, U14, and U16/U18 categories, carrying kit (jacket, hat, and gloves) is mandatory. Entry is £5, with on-the-day entry available.
