Paws for Mental Health takes place in Riverside Park in Presque Isle on May 16, 2026. The event includes a timed 5K run/walk and an untimed 1 mile community walk. Registration for the events is free.
The timed 5K uses a mixed road and off road route, primarily along Mary's Mile and the bike path near the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The course continues north along Main Street before returning to Mary's Mile. Medals are awarded to first and second place finishers in the men's, women's, and youth categories.
Distances
- 5K timed run/walk
- 1 mile community walk, untimed, dog and stroller friendly
The 1 mile community walk follows the Mary's Mile Walking Trail and includes checkpoints with information about mental health statistics and community resources. Participants may bring dogs but a pet is not required.
Funds raised support local mental health initiatives, including bringing speakers to local schools and efforts to reduce stigma. Fundraising by donations or pledged sponsorships is optional. The event features a community celebration with food trucks, live music from the Mark Shaw Band, on site vendors, and a craft and vendor fair inside the Sargent Community Center.
