Pagan Midwinter Marathon and Half Marathon
The Pagan Midwinter trail event takes place in the north-eastern region of Dartmoor, specifically based out of the Chagford Cricket and Football Club in Devon. This midwinter event is characterized by its location near the Upper Teign and Bovey Rivers, where the landscape features various stone circles and ancient pagan sites.
Participants can choose between two distinct distances that cover significant elevation and terrain:
- Marathon: A course of over 28 miles with more than 1500m of total ascent.
- Half Marathon: A course of over 14 miles featuring approximately 700m of total ascent.
The event is held in January, providing a seasonal experience on the moorland. The minimum age for entry is 17 years old. Registration fees differ for UKA members and non-members. The route is designed to visit local landmarks steeped in historical legend. The event operations are centered in the village of Chagford, situated in the corner of the National Park. Due to the winter timing and the elevation profile, the event is categorized as a significant physical test. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
