Paddy Buckley Round : Climb South West (3 days)
The Paddy Buckley Round is a professionally guided, fully supported three-day traverse of Northern Snowdonia that visits 47 mountain tops on a loop of just over 100 km with approximately 9,000 m of ascent and descent. The route includes sections of the Welsh 3000s and also covers the Moelwyn and Nantle Ridge ranges.
Participants move in small groups, running up to 40 km per day with a planned pace of slow running and walking on all hills and technical sections. Each day returns to a base in Capel Curig, where there are hotels, hostels and campsites; accommodation and food are not included. Refuelling opportunities are provided at midpoints on each day, and a support vehicle with a second qualified leader accompanies the group to offer additional help or allow partial participation.
The event is guided by a mountaineering instructor and uses a low supervision ratio (maximum 1:6). The organisers recommend prior experience such as completing the Welsh 3000s over two days or a 50 km event as a minimum preparation. The Paddy Buckley Round is described as tougher than both the Bob Graham and Ramsay Rounds.
