Event overview

The Paddy Buckley Round is a guided, fully supported three-day traverse of major mountain ranges in northern Snowdonia, based each night in Capel Curig. The route visits 47 mountain tops and includes the Moelwyn and Nantle Ridge ranges. The programme runs Tuesday 21st July to Thursday 23rd July 2026. Distances and elevation for the route include:

  • Loop of just over 100 km
  • Approximately 9,000 m of ascent/descent
  • Up to 40 km of running per day

Pace is described as a slow run, with walking on all hills and technical sections. Participants are advised to have prior mountain experience; recommended preparation includes completing the Welsh 3000s over two days or a 50 km event.

Support, logistics and entry

Guiding is provided at a maximum ratio of 1:6, led by a mountaineering instructor and supported each day by a second leader with a support vehicle. Included in the price are mid-day refuelling opportunities, hill support from the vehicle, and transport out and back each day from the Capel Curig base. Accommodation, personal food and cancellation insurance are not included. The event has a maximum of six places and a listed cost of £749. Entries open 30 July 2025 and close 12 July 2026; an instalment option splits payment into two 50% payments, the second payable by 23/05/26.
