Paddy Buckley Round : Climb South West
The Paddy Buckley Round, described as the Welsh Classical Round, is a professionally guided and fully supported three day route through the major mountain ranges of northern Snowdonia. The loop visits 47 mountain tops and covers just over 100 km with approximately 9,000 m of ascent and descent. Participants will run up to 40 km per day and will return each evening to Capel Curig, where there are hotels, hostels and campsites.
Groups are small with a maximum of six places. Guiding is provided by a mountaineering instructor and an additional leader who also travels with a support vehicle. Supervision is low ratio with a maximum of 1:6. Each day includes transport out and back from the base in Capel Curig and refuelling opportunities approximately halfway each day for food and drink.
The route covers sections of the Welsh 3000s and also includes the Moelwyn and Nantlle Ridge ranges. Organisers recommend prior experience such as completing the Welsh 3000s over two days or a 50 km event. The advertised price for the open three day event is £749. Accommodation, personal food and cancellation insurance are not included. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
