Yr Wyddfa Snowdon Ultra 50 : Overview
Yr Wyddfa Snowdon Ultra 50 is an ultramarathon held in Snowdonia Eryri, based at Betws-y-Coed. The event for 2026 is listed for Saturday 5th September and is the 8th edition. The course distance is 45 miles with approximately 3254 m of ascent. The event offers 500 places and the overall cut-off time is 20 hours. An earlybird entry fee is shown as £109.
Course and support
The route follows mountain trails and the Snowdonia Slate Trail, passing landmarks such as Tryfan, Yr Wyddfa summit, Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr, Devil’s Kitchen, Llyn Idwal, Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd, and Swallow Falls. There are five checkpoints with refreshments (including vegetarian and vegan options) and medical cover at each checkpoint. The race uses live online GPS tracking and issues a GPS tracker to each runner. Finishers receive medals by finishing position: positions 1–200 earn Gold, 201–400 Silver, 401+ Bronze. Additional trophies are awarded to the top three men and top three women.
Entry, qualifying and mandatory kit
Entrants must be at least 20 years old and have prior ultramarathon and mountain experience; applications are reviewed case by case. Competent map reading is required and reliance on GPS alone is not permitted. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and includes a hardcopy map (OS OL17 or Harveys), waterproof coat and trousers, compass, two long-sleeve base layers, minimum 1 litre water, charged mobile in waterproof bag, survival/thermal bag, headtorch (min 75 lumens) and backup light, 500 kcal emergency rations and whistle.
