Yr Wyddfa Ultra 50 : Snowdonia National Park, Betws-y-Coed
Yr Wyddfa Ultra 50 is an ultramarathon held on Saturday 5 September 2026 in Snowdonia Eryri, starting and finishing at the village green in Betws-y-Coed. The route is listed as 45 miles with approximately 2800 m of ascent and runs over mountain trails, the Snowdonia Slate Trail and past features such as Swallow Falls, Tryfan, the Yr Wyddfa summit, Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr, Devil’s Kitchen, Llyn Idwal, Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd.
The event has a field of 250 places and an entry fee of £119. Runners follow a navigation route that awards UTMB/ITRA mountain points and uses live online GPS tracking. Five checkpoints are provided along the course with refreshments, vegetarian and vegan options, medical cover and time cut-offs enforced at each checkpoint. Mandatory kit must be carried throughout the race and will be checked; required items include a hardcopy map, compass, waterproofs, headtorch, backup light, survival bag, minimum 1 litre water capacity and specified clothing and food items. Random kit checks take place at registration, en route and at the finish.
Applications are reviewed individually; entrants must be at least 20 years old and have previous ultramarathon and mountain experience, and be competent map readers. Pacers and unauthorised support runners are not permitted. Medals are awarded according to finishing position with Gold, Silver and Bronze tiers for finishers.
