Yr Wyddfa Ultra 50
Yr Wyddfa Ultra 50 is an ultramarathon held in Snowdonia Eryri with the village of Betws-y-Coed as the event hub. The course distance is approximately 45 miles with organiser listed ascent around 2800 m. The 2026 event is the 8th edition and is scheduled for Saturday 5th September 2026. Entry for 2026 is full and transfers are permitted subject to the event rules; there is no waitlist. The published entry fee was £119 and the event has a capacity of 250 places.
The route follows mountain trails and the Snowdonia Slate Trail, passing features such as Tryfan, Yr Wyddfa summit, Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr, Devil’s Kitchen, Llyn Idwal, Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd. It is a navigation event that awards UTMB/ITRA mountain points.
Support and safety are provided via five staffed checkpoints along the route. Checkpoints offer refreshments including cola, Tailwind, water, juice, sandwiches, salted potatoes, fruit and snacks, plus vegetarian and vegan options; medical or first responder cover is present at each checkpoint. Checkpoint cut offs are strictly enforced and runners must check in at all checkpoints or face disqualification. Live GPS tracking is used during the race.
Qualifying criteria require runners to be at least 20 years old and to have prior ultramarathon and mountain experience; applications are reviewed case by case. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times. Key items include an OS map or Harveys map, base plate compass, waterproof coat with sealed seams, headtorch (min 75 lumens) and backup light, survival bag, water capacity of at least 1 litre and emergency rations of at least 500 calories. Random kit checks take place at registration, on course and at the finish. The start and finish venue is Cae Llan Village Green, Betws-y-Coed.
