Event overview
Yr Wyddfa Snowdon Ultra 50 is a 45-mile mountain ultramarathon held in Snowdonia Eryri with 3,254 m of ascent. The event is scheduled for Saturday 5 September 2026 and is limited to 500 places. The published entry fee is £119 and the overall race cut-off is 20 hours. Finishers receive medals by placing band: 1-200 Gold, 201-400 Silver, 401+ Bronze. The race is part of GB Ultras 50 Mile series events.
Route, support and requirements
The route follows the Snowdonia Slate Trail and mountain trails that pass Swallow Falls, Tryfan, Yr Wyddfa summit, Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr, Devil’s Kitchen, Llyn Idwal, Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd. There are five checkpoints with refreshments and medical cover; checkpoint access and parking is limited and some checkpoints do not permit support crews. Checkpoints have strictly enforced cut-offs and runners must check in at each one.
Qualifying criteria include being at least 20 years old, prior ultramarathon and mountain experience, and competent map reading - reliance on GPS alone is not permitted. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and includes a hardcopy map (OS OL17 or Harveys XT maps), waterproof coat with sealed seams (min 10,000 mm), base plate compass, two long-sleeve base layers, minimum 1 litre water, charged mobile in a waterproof bag, survival/thermal bag, headtorch (min 75 lumens), backup light (min 25 lumens), emergency rations (min 500 kcal), GPS tracker provided by organisers, whistle, waterproof pants, gloves and warm hat.
