Yr Wyddfa Ultra 50
Yr Wyddfa Ultra 50 is a 45 mile mountain ultramarathon in Snowdonia Eryri based at Betws‑y‑Coed. The event on Saturday 5 September 2026 is limited to 250 places; the listed total ascent is 2800 m, the overall cut off is 20 hours and the entry fee is £119. The 2026 race is full and entries are closed; transfers are permitted up to three weeks before race day.
The route follows the Snowdonia Slate Trail past Swallow Falls and climbs on mountain trails near Tryfan, Yr Wyddfa summit, Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr, Devil’s Kitchen and Llyn Idwal, then takes in trails beside Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd. Runners earn UTMB/ITRA mountain points and the event uses live GPS tracking with a tracker issued at registration.
There are five checkpoints with refreshments, vegetarian and vegan options, and medical cover; participants must check in at all checkpoints or face disqualification. Support crews are restricted at specified locations because of limited parking and safety; a single vehicle per runner is permitted. No pacers or support runners are allowed.
Qualifying criteria include a minimum age of 20, previous ultramarathon and mountain experience, and competence in map reading; applications are reviewed case by case. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and may be checked; required items include a paper OS map, compass, waterproofs, headtorch and backup light, survival bag, emergency rations, a minimum 1 litre water capacity, charged phone, whistle and warm clothing. Low level route alternatives may be used in adverse weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
