Event overview
The Yr Wyddfa Snowdon Ultra 50 is a 45-mile mountain ultra held in Snowdonia Eryri with an advertised elevation gain of 2,800 m and up to 500 places. The 2026 edition is scheduled for Saturday 5th September 2026 and has an overall cut-off time of 20 hours. The published entry fee for the event is £119. Finishers are awarded graded medals by finishing position: Gold for the top 200, Silver for 201–400 and Bronze for 401+; trophies are given to the top three male and top three female finishers.
Course, checkpoints and rules
The route starts and finishes at the village green in Betws-y-Coed and follows mountain trails through classic Snowdonia terrain, including sections near Tryfan, Yr Wyddfa summit, Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr, Devil’s Kitchen, Llyn Idwal, Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd and parts of the Snowdonia Slate Trail. The course includes five staffed checkpoints with food, drink and medical support; checkpoint locations are approximate and may be altered for local diversions. GPS live tracking is used and participants are issued a GPS tracker that must be returned after the race, or a replacement charge applies.
Runners must meet qualifying criteria: be at least 20 years old, have prior ultramarathon and mountain experience, and be competent with map and compass navigation. A comprehensive mandatory kit list is enforced and random kit checks take place; failure to carry mandatory kit may lead to disqualification.
