Outrun the Night
Outrun the Night is a 12-hour night trail running challenge held at Dalkeith Country Park with a single 5 km loop through woodland trails and some road. Runners complete as many 5 km loops as they wish within the event duration; every completed loop adds to an overall distance total. There is no minimum distance beyond completing the first loop.
The course includes dark woodland sections with uneven ground, exposed roots and changing underfoot conditions. A working headtorch and a second backup light are mandatory; runners must also have a fully charged mobile phone, suitable trail footwear and clothing appropriate for cold, wet or windy overnight conditions.
The event base is on the Palace Lawn and functions as the central rest and support area. Base camp provisions include drinking water, basic carbohydrate snacks, toilets, professional medical support, a staffed base and a basic bag-drop area. There will be no organiser-provided marquee or runner shelter; each solo runner or team may use one shelter pitch up to 3m x 3m and support crew must share that allocated space. Participant parking is not available inside the park; parking on Dalkeith High Street and nearby public areas is used instead and the base camp is approximately a five-minute walk from the High Street.
Entry options and fees are published for solo runners and teams. Solo, two-person and four-person entries are recorded on separate leaderboards and top solo finishers receive event recognition and prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
