Event Overview
The ÖTILLÖ Orcas Island event takes place in the Pacific Northwest of Washington State. The courses navigate through Moran State Park, featuring inland lake swims and forest trail runs. The terrain includes rural and hilly sections with significant elevation changes, ranging from old-growth forest trails to the summit of Mount Constitution.
Race Categories
Participants can choose from three distinct distances, available for both teams and solo racers:
- World Series: Total 38,996 m (5,370 m swim, 33,626 m run, 1,368 m elevation)
- Sprint: Total 22,440 m (2,930 m swim, 19,510 m run, 593 m elevation)
- Experience: Total 10,580 m (1,330 m swim, 9,250 m run, 307 m elevation)
Logistics and Requirements
To reach the island, travelers typically fly into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and drive to the Washington State Ferry Terminal in Anacortes. A ferry crossing is required to reach the race site at Rosario Resort.
Mandatory equipment for all participants includes a wetsuit, a whistle, a compression bandage, and a swim cap. Solo racers must also carry a personal flotation device. The event enforces specific cut-off times at various locations, including the bottom and top of Mount Constitution, to ensure safety. Water stops along the course provide water, electrolyte-infused drinks, and energy gels. Packet pickup is conducted the day before the race at the Rosario Beach House.
