Event Overview
The Orcas Island 50K and 25K are trail races held on Orcas Island in Washington. The courses traverse old-growth forests in Moran State Park and offer views of surrounding islands, mountains, and Puget Sound. The terrain varies from smooth and fast to rooty, rocky, and steep.
Distances and Key Details
- 50K: Held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, with 7,200 feet of elevation gain/loss, a 12-hour cutoff, and four aid stations.
- 25K: Held on Sunday, June 7, 2026, with 4,300 feet of elevation gain/loss, an 8-hour cutoff, and two aid stations.
- The Double (75K): A combination of both races, run on Saturday and Sunday, totaling 11,500 feet of elevation gain/loss and a 20-hour cutoff.
Course and Logistics
The start/finish area for both races is at Doe Bay Resort & Retreat in Olga. The courses are primarily single-track trails, marked with signage and ribbons. The average June temperatures on the island are highs of 65°F and lows of 50°F. Orcas Island is accessible by ferry, and advance ferry reservations are required.
Aid Stations and Drop Bags
Each aid station provides water, Gnarly electrolyte drink, peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, fresh fruit, chips, pickles, cookies, candy, and some GU gels. Runners can utilize drop bags at each aid station, which they must label with their name, bib number, and the aid station name.
Weekend and Post-Race
The event is designed as a weekend experience. A post-race party at Doe Bay features pizza from Pizza Rocks and local beer and cider from Island Hoppin' Brewery. The party is free for that day's runners and volunteers; others can attend for a fee.
