About the race
The O’side Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving morning running event held in Oceanside, California. It features a scenic beachside course that starts on Coast Highway and finishes behind the amphitheater on the strand, with flat stretches, water views and ocean breezes. The event includes a 5K run/walk and two kids races, plus an option to complete both 5K waves as a Double Dip challenge. Per-participant amenities include a custom race t-shirt, a finisher medal, free race photos, chip timing and live results.
Age group awards are presented for local and open divisions across a wide range of age categories, and kids races offer top three awards by age group. The event supports local nonprofits. The primary nonprofit partner is the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank. A portion of registration fees is designated for selected charities and the event has raised more than $500,000 for local organizations over the past two decades.
Participants may designate a beneficiary during registration, and a $40 gift option is listed to provide a Thanksgiving meal. Additional event features described by the organizer include a race day expo and packet pick up, a team competition with gift certificates for the largest teams, a costume contest with prizes for top costumes, a prize purse and performance bonuses for top finishers in the main 5K wave, and complimentary parking shuttle locations.
