Keepin' It Rural 5K/10K Trail Run and Hike
Keepin' It Rural is a recurring trail run and hike held at the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve in San Diego, California. The event stages start and finish at the base of the Olivenhain Dam and uses single track dirt trails through areas normally closed to the public.
Race entries are chip timed for runners and include water and aid stations on course. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers in each distance.

- 5K trail run and hike
- 10K trail run
Hikers may take the 5K course at a leisurely pace; family hikers are offered a separate pricing option and the 5K hike is non chip timed. The hike portion is dog friendly and provides exclusive access to parts of the Elfin Forest Reserve.
A post race festival at the staging area features a vendor expo, food trucks, beer garden, live band, and raffle. All paid participants receive a commemorative technical t shirt, a finisher medallion, and a complimentary beer for those 21 and older. The event includes a Golden Goat team competition and offers discounted pricing for groups of five or more. Participant capacity is limited to 350. A portion of proceeds benefits the Escondido Creek Conservancy, an organization focused on watershed health and land preservation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
