Keepin' It Rural 5K/10K Trail Race and Holiday Elf Run
Keepin' It Rural is an annual trail event held at the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve. The event uses a start and finish area and a post-race expo located at the base of the Olivenhain Dam. The course route passes through the reserve, which is noted for diverse wildlife, scenic trails, and biological diversity.
The event offers chip timing for both distances and imposes a two hour time limit on the course. The 5 km course is open to runners and to hikers; the 10 km course is restricted to runners. The program includes a 1 km fun run for children aged 10 and under. There is also a 10K team competition that requires a minimum of five entrants per team; team members register individually and register their team name during entry.
Packet pickup is arranged the day before the race at The Lost Abbey location in San Elijo. The event is presented by a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) community organization and shares event proceeds with a local conservancy that manages open space in the watershed. Access restrictions apply: participants are prohibited from entering the race staging area prior to race morning via Via Ambiente; pre-running is permitted only from the reserve entrance at 8833 Harmony Grove Road during regular reserve hours and on designated trails.
The event is non-refundable; if cancelled organizers plan to reschedule when possible. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
