Ormsary 10k
The Ormsary 10k is a multi-terrain running event organized by the Ormsary Social Club. The course takes place on the Ormsary Estate near Lochgilphead, Argyll, and features a variety of surfaces including tarmac, dirt tracks, muddy sections, and rough ground. The route includes several elevation changes with both uphill and downhill sections.
The event starts and finishes at Ormsary Hall. The course layout consists of several distinct sections:
- 10 km: A multi-terrain route involving public single-track roads and estate tracks.
The first two miles of the race follow the B8024, a public single-track road where participants may encounter vehicular traffic. Following the road section, the course transitions onto a muddy dirt track for approximately 500 yards on a steep incline. The route then levels out for roughly 2.5 miles on a dirt track road. At the 4.5-mile mark, the surface returns to tarmac for a winding downhill section. The final half-mile returns to the B8024, leading back to the finish line at Ormsary Hall.
For safety reasons, participants are prohibited from wearing headphones to ensure they can hear traffic and marshal instructions. The roads remain open to the public, and runners are responsible for their own safety when crossing roads. The course is marshalled and includes one water station located near the halfway point. First aid support is provided by Oban Mountain Rescue. Facilities at Ormsary Hall include car parking and toilets. After the event, refreshments such as soup, sandwiches, and home baking are provided for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
