Orange Shirt Day Run/Walk
The Orange Shirt Day Run/Walk is an annual event organized by Indigenous Runner / Red Trail Running on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It is held to honour and remember children who did not survive the residential school era, to hold space for survivors, and to raise funds for local grassroots movements, support Indigenous athletes, and provide safe spaces for Indigenous runners.
Events take place in Edmonton and Saskatoon. The Edmonton course runs through the North Saskatchewan River Valley on maintained trails with a mix of wide track trail and some pavement. The Saskatoon course starts at Rotary Park and follows the Meewasin trail, also combining wide track trail and pavement. A Peace River course starts at Riverfront Park.
Participants receive event items. Every finisher receives a hand carved wooden feather for their finisher medal and a race shirt. Registrations include a custom orange t shirt, a custom wood medal, and swag as described by the organizer. The cancellation policy states that if the event is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, registered racers receive a 50% refund plus 2026 finisher or swag items or the option to roll over registration to 2027; no other refunds are permitted.
