4th Annual #OptOutside Black Friday Fun Run
This event is a community 5K run and walk held on the paved Michael N. Castle Trail in Bear, DE along the scenic C&D Canal. The course is traffic free and includes the Castle Crusher Switchback. Parking is free at the upper lot above Grain H2O; the trailhead is listed at Michael N. Castle Trail.
Race options include in person and virtual entries and a separate competitive walking 5K that requires walking the entire distance. A free kids race is offered for ages 8 and under without prior registration. Timing uses chip timing with the MYLAPS BibTag system and results will be posted online.
The event emphasizes eco friendly practices in partnership with Plastic Free Delaware. Organizers will collect and compost organics, recycle beverage containers, provide refill stations for reusable bottles, reuse leftover bibs, and distribute eco friendly swag and awards. Sustainable swag is available for the first 200 registered participants. Post race refreshments include fruit and beverages provided by sponsors.
Awards include a Green Team Award for the largest team of finishers, Delaware State Parks annual passes for top overall finishers, age group awards, and awards for top walkers.
