Oktoberfest Running Event
Oktoberfest is a trail running event held along the Leeds - Liverpool Canal, starting and finishing at Rodley Cricket Club in Leeds. The course follows a flat towpath with gentle elevation changes around the locks, making it suitable for those seeking a fast surface or a straightforward trail experience. The races are chip-timed and licensed by the Trail Running Association (TRA).
Participants can choose from a wide variety of distances:
- 5k
- 10k
- 10 Mile
- Half Marathon
- 20 Mile (two laps of the 10-mile route)
- Marathon (two laps of the Half Marathon route)
- Ultra Marathon (two laps of the Half Marathon plus the 10k route)
The event is fully marshalled, and feed stations are positioned every 3 miles. These stations are cup-less, so runners must carry their own bottle or cup. Finishers receive a bespoke medal and post-race treats, which include food such as German-themed snacks.
The event hub at Rodley Cricket Club offers parking for a small cash fee used for club funds. The location is also accessible via bus links from Leeds, Keighley, Shipley, Bingley, and Bradford. For safety, the use of over-ear headphones is not permitted; runners may only use bone-conducting or "one in/one out" styles. GPX files for all routes are provided for participants to download in advance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
