Oktoberfest 5-Miler

The Oktoberfest 5-Miler is an annual autumn running event held in Howard County. The course begins at Charm City Run Columbia and leads participants around the scenic Lake Elkhorn. The route features travel across several wooden bridges with views of the water and fall foliage before reaching the finish line.

Participants can choose from the following event options:

  • 5-Miler (In-person race)
  • Virtual 5-Miler (Remote participation)

To manage the flow of the race on the trail, the field is organized into four starting corrals based on estimated finish times. The event has a course time limit of 1.5 hours from the time a wave crosses the start line. On-course support includes an aid station and snacks.

Registered participants receive a race-themed finisher medal and an Oktoberfest shirt. A post-race party is hosted at Black Flag Brewing Co., featuring music and one complimentary drink for runners aged 21 and over. Awards are presented for in-person categories, including the top three overall male, female, and non-binary runners, as well as age group leaders from 19 & under to 70+. A costume contest is also held on race day. A portion of the proceeds from the event supports Bridges to Housing Stability, an organization working to prevent homelessness in Howard County.
