Event Overview

The Ochil Hill Relays is a team hill running event held in Alva. It takes place on Saturday, 7th March 2026. Registration is at Cochrane Hall on West Stirling Street, Alva. The race start is at the entrance to Alva Glen, which is 700 metres from the registration hall.

Team Structure and Format

Teams consist of four runners. The relay is run over three legs covering a total of approximately 27 km. Leg 1 and Leg 2 are run individually, while Leg 3 is a paired leg where both runners must visit every checkpoint together.

Distances and Ascent

  • Leg 1: Approximately 9.75 km with 660 m of ascent.
  • Leg 2: Approximately 8 km with 715 m of ascent.
  • Leg 3: Approximately 9.5 km with 880 m of ascent.

Race Details and Safety

The event is an early spring hill relay, where weather can be unpredictable. Runners must have physical ability and basic navigational skills. There are compulsory kit checks prior to the start. Required kit includes full waterproof body cover (top and bottoms), hat, gloves, a detailed map of the course, a mobile phone, a compass, a whistle, and footwear suitable for hill running. Teams failing to comply will be disqualified. Runners must use stiles or gates and not climb over fences.

Entry Information

Entry costs £60 per team, plus a booking fee. Entry is limited to 87 teams on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no limit on teams per club. A waitlist operates once the limit is reached.

Prizes

Prizes are awarded in several categories based on aggregate team time for all three legs. Categories include Open Senior, Open 40+, 50+, and 60+; Female Senior, 40+, 50+, and 60+; and Mixed Senior, 40+, 50+, and 60+.
