Scottish Athletics Senior and U20 Hill Running Championships Ben Ledi Uphill Only Race
The Ben Ledi Uphill Only Race is a hill running event held at Forest Holidays Strathyre near Callander. The competition also serves as the Scottish Athletics Senior and U20 Hill Running Championships. Participants must be at least 18 years old to enter. While championship medals are reserved for members of Scottish Athletics, the race is open to all qualified participants.
The course covers a total distance of 5.3 km with a total ascent of 760 m. The race begins at Stank Glen and finishes at the summit of Ben Ledi. Following the finish at the peak, runners are responsible for making their own way back down the hill. Registration takes place at the race start, where a vehicle or tent is provided for kit drops. On-site facilities include public toilets located in the Retreat Building at the Forest Holidays resort, approximately 400 m from the start.
Because of the high-altitude nature of the course, participants are required to carry specific safety gear. This includes a hat, gloves, and waterproof clothing for both the upper and lower body. In the event of poor weather conditions, runners may also be required to carry a thermal top.
Parking at the venue is very limited, and the area is popular with visitors. Methods such as car sharing or parking in the nearby town of Callander and cycling or running to the start are encouraged. After the race, refreshments such as tea and coffee are accessible at the Retreat Building for those who present their race number. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
