Event Overview
The Ocean State Rhode Races take place in Narragansett, Rhode Island, featuring several distances that showcase the coastal and rural scenery of the area. The event begins and ends at the Narragansett Town Beach, with courses that travel through local farms, tree-lined back roads, and along the coastline.
Participants can choose from several race distances:
- Marathon: A 26.2 mile course that is USATF certified and serves as a Boston Marathon and Abbott World Marathon Majors qualifier.
- Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile course that serves as the final stop of a five part half marathon series.
- 5k: A 3.1 mile course that follows the start and finish of the longer races with a turnaround on a wooded road.
- Virtual Races: Options are available for the 5k, Half Marathon, and Marathon distances for those unable to attend in person.
Course Details
The marathon and half marathon routes lead runners past coastal homes, old rock walls, and picturesque waterways. The path winds through US 1A and descends into Bonnet Shores before heading back toward the finish line at the beach. The 5k route shares the same starting banner as the longer distances.
The event is held rain or shine. The in-person races include a post-race festival at Narragansett Town Beach. The 5k race is affiliated with the RI Senior Games, offering qualification opportunities for the 2027 National Senior Games Association competition for participants aged 50 and older.
