Oak Mountain Adventure Race (OMAR)
Oak Mountain Adventure Race is a team-based event held inside Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama on March 13–14, 2027. The event offers two main timed formats, a 24 hour race and a 10 hour race, with an option for teams to use a 6 hour format by spending roughly two hours per discipline.
The race uses a 100% rogaine format, so teams choose the order and time spent on each discipline. Navigation is supported by pre-plotted, waterproof maps and well-marked trails; the first discipline is revealed at check-in. All teammates must be present for check-in to receive instructions and maps.
Course terrain includes mountains, creeks, waterfalls, lakes, trails, and forests. The park has over 50 miles of established trails and about 1,500 newly developed acres soon to open. For the 10 hour race, expected distances are approximately:
- 25–35 miles mountain biking
- 8–12 miles trekking
- 3–5 miles canoeing
Divisions include solo, 2-, 3-, and 4-person teams (coed or open) and Masters divisions. A mountain bike with flat handlebars and wider tires is required; gravel bikes are not permitted. Organizers provide canoes, paddles, personal flotation devices, a race shirt, food and drinks during the race, awards, and a finish dinner by Oak Mountain Creekside BBQ.
Registration opens June 1, 2026. Race fees listed per racer are $350 for the 24 hour race and $250 for the 10 hour race. Mandatory gear, signed waivers, and the event rules are required before participation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
