Event overview
The 2026 NYS Parks Winter Run Series is a four-race series of 5K (3.1 mi) road races held at New York State parks on consecutive Sundays in January and early February. Each race has a costume or theme: Red/White/Blue (Heckscher), Silly Socks & Hats (Robert Moses), Shine Bright! (Sunken Meadow), and Throwback (Jones Beach). Registration options include a full series entry and single-race entries.
Race details and logistics
The four races and locations are: Heckscher State Park (East Islip, Field #2) on January 11; Robert Moses State Park (Babylon, Field #2) on January 18; Sunken Meadow State Park (Kings Park, Field #3) on January 25; and Jones Beach State Park (Wantagh, Field #4) on February 1. Full-series pre-registration fee is $50.00; single-race registration is $20.00 per race. Registrants who register by December 21 receive a personalized bib; standard bibs are issued to those who register from December 22 onward.
Pre-registration bib and shirt pickup for full-series entrants is at Long Island State Park Headquarters (Belmont Ave, Exit 37N) on Thursday, January 8 and Friday, January 9 (8:00 AM - 7:00 PM) and Saturday, January 10 (8:00 AM - 1:00 PM). Single-race bib pickup is on the day of each event.
Amenities, awards and rules
Full-series participants receive a long-sleeve T-shirt and giveaway. Post-race refreshments are provided only to runners wearing an official race number. Digital clocks are at every mile and water is available at the start and finish only. Medals are awarded to the first three male, female, and non-binary finishers per race in each age category (12 & Under; 13-15; 16-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80-84; 85-89; 90+). Baby joggers, rollerbladers, skaters, bikers, and pets are not permitted on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
