NYCRUNS Lousy T-Shirt Race
The NYCRUNS Lousy T-Shirt Race is a weeknight running event held in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. Originally established in 2011 as the debut event for the organizer, this race has become a recurring tradition. The event supports the Prospect Park Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to the maintenance and restoration of the park in partnership with the City of New York.
The event features a single distance:
- 5 km
The 5 km course consists of just under one full loop of Prospect Park. The route is USATF-certified and concludes with a final sprint up Center Drive. Participants are organized into a pace-based corral system, with assignments ranging from letters AA to F based on individual profiles. Handcycle and wheelchair division athletes are welcome to participate and start ahead of the standard runner corrals.
The festival area is located in the Nethermead and serves as the hub for pre-race and post-race activities. Available amenities include a bag check service, portable bathrooms, and hydration stations offering water and electrolyte fluids both on the course and at the finish line. After completing the run, participants receive refreshments such as ice pops, apples, and pretzels. Participants also receive a commemorative T-shirt, which is distributed on race day in the festival area.
The venue is accessible via public transportation, with several subway and bus stops located near the park. Results are provided via email following the race, and awards are presented to the top three overall finishers and top finishers across various age groups.
