Tom Fleming Sunset Classic
The Tom Fleming Sunset Classic is a running event in Bloomfield, New Jersey, that serves as the USATF-NJ COED Team Championship. The 38th edition of this event supports the Bloomfield Educational Foundation and the Vocational Educational Special Training (V.E.S.T) program. The routes pass through local residential areas and community spaces.
The following distances are available:
- 5 Miles: A road race winding through streets in Bloomfield and Glen Ridge with a track finish.
- 1 Mile: A timed race held on a USATF NJ certified course, ending on the track.
- Kids Sprints: Non-timed distances from 20 yards to 300 yards for children aged 2 to 12.
Participants in the 5 Mile event compete for overall cash prizes and age group awards across divisions ranging from 10 to 85 plus. The Mile race provides overall awards for top finishers and medals for all participants. Rankings and awards for these events are determined by gun time.
Foley Field serves as the central hub for the event, hosting the track finishes and youth sprints on the infield. Post-race amenities organized for participants and families include hot dogs, ice cream, and beverages. Parking is available at several surrounding lots, including those behind the Town Pub, at Memorial Park, and at the Bloomfield Board of Education.
