NYCRUNS Haunted Island 5K
The NYCRUNS Haunted Island 5K takes place on October 25, 2026 on Governors Island in New York. Now in its 15th year, the event includes Halloween decorations and a costume contest. Entry includes a ferry ride for runners and guests, an official race shirt, and post race food including Halloween candy.
The course is one full loop around Governors Island and is USATF certified. A nearby Festival Area hosts bib and shirt pickup, bag check, portable bathrooms, and post race refreshments. Start corrals are pace based and assigned by letter from AA to F; assignments appear on the bib.
Event amenities include bag check (one single clear bag, 18 x 24 inches), water and electrolyte fluids on course and at the finish, fresh fruit and bagels after the race, and race day photos available by email link. Bibs are available for pickup in the Festival Area on race morning; NYCRUNS members may have bibs mailed if registration occurs 20 or more days before the event and the address is in the U.S. Non members may add mailed bibs for an additional fee.
Results and awards cover top three overall male, female, and non binary finishers by gun time and age group awards by net time. Handcycle and wheelchair athletes are advised against entry because the course contains many turns. Standard no refunds and no transfers policies apply. Strollers and dogs are not allowed.
