NYCRUNS Haunted Island 5K
The NYCRUNS Haunted Island 5K is a Halloween-themed running event held on Governors Island. Now in its 15th year, the race features a course that consists of a single full loop around the island, providing participants with views of the New York Harbor and the city skyline. All courses provided by the organizer are USATF-certified.
The event includes several amenities for participants. Registration provides a ferry ride to the island for runners and their guests, an official tech race shirt, and post-race refreshments such as bagels, fresh fruit, and Halloween candy. A festival area is located near the ferry terminal, where participants can pick up their race bibs, check bags using a single clear bag, and access portable bathrooms. The start and finish lines are situated a short distance from this central hub.
The race utilizes a pace-based corral system with assignments ranging from AA to F based on the runner's profile. Timing and results are provided via email and an online results page, with awards available for the top three finishers in various age groups and gender categories. For safety reasons, the organizer does not advise handcycle or wheelchair athletes to participate due to the high number of turns on the course.
