NYCRUNS Haunted Island 5K
The NYCRUNS Haunted Island 5K is a Halloween themed 5K held on Governors Island on October 25, 2026. The course is one full loop around the island and is USATF certified. The event is in its 15th year and commonly features costumes and a costume contest.
Entry includes a ferry ride for the runner and guests, race entry, an official race tech shirt, and post race refreshments that include Halloween candy. The Festival Area, a short walk from the ferry terminal, houses bib and shirt pickup, bag check, portable bathrooms, hydration stations, and the start and finish areas.
Start corrals are pace based and assigned by letter from AA to F; corral letters appear on the bib. Bibs are available for pick up in the Festival Area on race morning with a unique QR code. NYCRUNS members may have bibs mailed if they register at least 20 days before the event and provide a U.S. mailing address; shirts are not mailed.
On course amenities include water and electrolyte fluids. Bag check requires a single clear bag that fits specified dimensions and may be inspected. Race photos include one free download plus optional paid packages. Awards are given to the top three male, female, and non binary finishers overall and in listed age groups by chip time. Handcycle and wheelchair athletes are not advised due to the high number of turns.
Ferries depart from the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street and run on the half hour. The event has standard no refunds and no transfers policies, a time limit for completion, and rules that prohibit strollers and dogs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
