NYCRUNS Haunted Island 10K
The NYCRUNS Haunted Island 10K is a Halloween-themed road race on Governors Island now in its 15th year. The event is a 10K run that follows two loops around the island and is USATF-certified. Many participants wear costumes and the event includes a costume contest. Race entry includes a ferry ride for the runner and guests, the race entry, an official race tech shirt, and post-race food including Halloween candy.
The Festival Area, a short walk from the ferry terminal, is the location for bib and shirt pickup, bag check, portable bathrooms, and post-race refreshments. Water and electrolyte fluids are available on the course and at the finish. NYCRUNS operates a pace-based corral system with corrals labeled AA to F; corral assignment appears on the bib and is based on the pace set in the runner Dashboard.
Bag check requires one single clear bag (18 x 24) and organizers may search bag contents. Bibs are available for pickup on race morning in the Festival Area with a unique QR code; members may have bibs mailed if they register 20 or more days before the event and the mailing address is in the U.S. Non-members can add mailed bibs for an extra fee. Photos include a free eligible image and optional discounted photo packages.
Results are emailed and posted online. Awards are given to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers overall by gun time, and to the top three in each age group by net time: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. Due to numerous turns, handcycle and wheelchair athletes are not advised to register. Standard no-refunds no-transfers policies apply. Strollers and dogs are not allowed and some equipment or actions may result in disqualification. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
