NYCRUNS Haunted Island 10K
The NYCRUNS Haunted Island 10K is an annual Halloween-themed running event held on Governors Island in New York City. The race is now in its 15th year and features a festive atmosphere with holiday decorations and a costume contest. Participants have the option to run in costume.
The events offered at this location include:
- 10K (two loops of the island)
The course is USATF-certified and provides views of New York Harbor and the city skyline. Due to a high number of turns on the route, the course is not recommended for handcycle or wheelchair athletes. The festival area is located a short walk from the ferry terminal, providing a central location for bib and shirt pickup, bag check services, and portable bathrooms.
Registered participants receive a ferry ride for themselves and their guests to Governors Island from the Battery Maritime Building in Manhattan. Amenities include a technical race shirt, water and electrolyte stations along the course, and post-race refreshments such as fresh fruit, bagels, and Halloween candy.
Timing and results are managed through a pace-based corral system, and awards are presented to the top three overall finishers and top three in various age groups for male, female, and non-binary categories. Digital tracking is available via a dedicated mobile app, and runners receive one complimentary professional photo. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
