Polar Bear Half Marathon & 5K NSRF
This event takes place at Prospect Park in Brooklyn and serves as the final stop of the NYC Parks Winter Series. Runners and walkers can choose between two distances:
- Half Marathon : 13.1 miles, four loops of the Prospect Park circuit.
- 5K : one loop of the Prospect Park circuit.
Both routes use a USATF certified circuit. The start is south of Duck Island adjacent to St. Paul’s Place, approximately 365 meters northeast of the finish. The finish is at the Grecian Shelter historical landmark, the Peristyle. Half marathon participants must pass through the finish line on each loop for accurate split times; live time tracking and split photos are provided on course.
On-site amenities include an informal bag check area, bathrooms within a short walk of the start and finish, porto-johns near the finish, hydration at the finish line, and refreshments provided by All Round Foods and Waterloo Sparkling Water. Same-day finish-line photos, live online/email/text results, and free video are available.
A virtual participation option is offered; virtual participants have from the first day of the event and a full week to log a time and may upload up to five photos. Bibs can be mailed for a $10 fee if registration occurs at least ten days before the event. Proceeds benefit the Never Stop Running Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports athletic and charitable events and athlete development.
