Polar Bear Half Marathon & 5K NSRF
The event takes place in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, as the fourth and final stop of the NYC Parks Winter Series. It offers both an in-person race and a virtual participation option with race gear shipped to virtual entrants.
Distances offered:
- Half Marathon 13.1 miles, run as four loops of the certified course
- 5K one loop of the same circuit
Both routes use a USATF certified circuit within Prospect Park. The start is described as south of Duck Island adjacent to St. Pauls Place, roughly 365 meters northeast of the finish. The finish is at the Grecian Shelter landmark, the Peristyle.
On-course features include live time tracking and split photos for the half marathon. Amenities listed for the event include an informal bag check area, bathrooms within a few minutes walk, hydration at the finish, Porto-Johns near the finish, and refreshments provided by All Round Foods and Waterloo Sparkling Water. Participants receive a Polar Bear T-Shirt and a Polar Bear medal.
Age group recognition is awarded to the top overall finishers and to top finishers in multiple age divisions, including 14 and under through 90 plus. Proceeds benefit the Never Stop Running Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on athletic and community programs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
