Abominable 5K & 10K NSRF
The Abominable 5K & 10K takes place at Flushing Meadows Corona Park as part of the NYC Parks Winter Series, stop three. The event offers two race distances:
- 5K one loop on a USATF certified course
- 10K two loops of the certified 5K course
The course passes the Unisphere twice and runs around the Fountain of the Planets, with start and finish near the Queens Theater. Bathrooms are available a few minutes' walk from the start and finish; additional porto-johns are located near the finish and the NYC Parks building just after mile two. Hydration is provided at the finish line.
Event amenities include an informal bag check area, a race tee, and refreshments provided by All Round Foods and Waterloo Sparkling Water. Results are published live online with same-day finish line photos and video. Top overall and age group recognition is given for male, female, and nonbinary categories across multiple age brackets.
A virtual participation option allows entrants to log a time and up to five photos within the event week; virtual participants can receive mailed bibs and race gear. Parking near the Queens Museum on Meridian Road is noted, with a short walk to the Queens Theater. Proceeds benefit the Never Stop Running Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization supporting athletic and charitable programs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
