North Yorkshire Coast and Moor 50 Miles
This event is an adaptation of the Whitby Abbey Lands Walk. It follows the Cleveland Way from Ravenscar to Sandsend, then cuts inland across the moor and returns to the start at Grouse Hill Caravan Park in Fylingdales. The route passes Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby, Mulgrave Woods, Grosmont, Sleights Moor, Breckon Howe, Whinstone Ridge, York Cross, Lilla Cross, Langdale Forest and Jugger Howe Beck.
The course is approximately 50 miles with about 6,000 feet of ascent and has a 24 hour time limit. There are four checkpoints along the route; organisers provide water and some snacks at checkpoints and will meet participants with their drop bags left at Grouse Hill. Runners may join but checkpoint opening times are calculated on a maximum speed of 4 miles per hour. A vehicle will be available to return participants who retire at checkpoints to Grouse Hill.
Two participation formats are offered: guided and self guided. Guided groups have a designated guide on the day. Self guided entrants receive a GPX file of the route and pin drops for checkpoints. Parking is available at Grouse Hill and nearby accommodation and a local pub are within walking distance. The event limits numbers to 60 participants overall with up to 15 in guided places. Free training walks, a kit list and a training schedule are provided to registered participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
