North Island Cross Country Championships - Spa Thermal Park, Taupo
The 38th North Island Cross Country Championships is a sanctioned event run under Athletics NZ rules as open races. Membership of an affiliated running club is not required; all entrants are eligible for place medals. Spikes are permitted.
Venue amenities include tents/shelters (bring your own), toilets by the carpark and on the field, and refreshments available from the Lake Taupo Rangers tent and coffee carts. Entrants receive a free muffin and hot drink. There are no EFTPOS facilities on site.
Entry details: individuals enter online via the event entry portal. Clubs can request an entry form by email. Entries close Wednesday 1 July at 5.00pm; late entries are taken at registration with a $5 fee. An entrant list will be published the Friday before the event; any changes are handled at registration.
Registration takes place Friday 3 July at the Taupo Harrier Clubrooms, 13 AC Baths Avenue, Taupo, and on race day at Race HQ, Spa Thermal Park. Race numbers must be worn on the front of singlets.
A club competition awards points based on finishing places with all club finishers counting. A centre competition awards points to centres based on their best three places in Senior, Masters and U18/20 races. Results will be available live on the day.
Distances by grade:
- Boys/Girls Under 10 (9 and under): 1000 m
- Boys/Girls Under 12 (10-11): 2000 m
- Boys/Girls Under 14 (12-13): 3000 m
- Boys/Girls Under 16 (14-15): 3000 m
- Men Under 18 / Under 20 (16-19): 5000 m
- Women Under 18 / Under 20 (16-19): 4000 m
- Senior Men (20-34): 9000 m
- Senior Women (20-34): 5000 m
- Masters Men 35+: 6000 m
- Masters Women 35+: 5000 m
Age rules: grades up to and including Senior are determined by age as at 31 December 2026. Masters ages are taken on race day in five-year groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
